I love the food of Pakistan and Bangladesh – because its spicy. Not a typical taste a German would have since I would say that we use really only salt and pepper. To also name the two countries in one sentence..some might have a problem with that and the debate still continues on who really has the best oranges. Bangladesh’ capital is big, crowded, noisy and polluted. I flew to the border where the refugee camps are and the Rohingyas sought refuge. It felt weird. You arrive, drive to a beautiful hotel directly at the beach. And the beaches are miles and miles long, just nature. And then you arrive at this sort of hilly camp with the horizon full of tents ad people. 1,1 million refugees according to UNHCR have fled Myanmar and sought refuge in Bangladesh since August 2015. My own country Germany has given around 45,000 Syrians refugee status as of 2020. When you walk through, at first, you dont see it. But once you spent time in the camp, you start to look more closely and you see the wounds of people and scarves and you wonder what all of them must have endured. The future remains uncertain and its put on hold when living in a refugee camp while everyone is trying their best to help but for how long?
